Things to Know about Tarinfell: A New Era

  • The Beginning: Tarinfell was founded a long time ago, though magical beings existed in this land before any recorded history, it is believed the first human explorers to find Tarinfell did so during the Age of Vikings but some argue the Saxons may have found Tarinfell first, as there are influences of both cultures to be found around Tarinfell. There was no mention of Tarinfell anywhere in human history prior to the 19th century so it is assumed that whoever visited Tarinfell from the outside world, either never returned or was never truly believed enough to be investigated.

  • Tarinfell is considered to be the epicenter of all magical life on Earth. All magical beings on Earth can be traced back to Tarinfell. Some people in Tarinfell may have gotten curious and left to explore the world which gave way to the cultural folklore around the world, though most lived under a masquerade until Tarinfell’s discovery in 1800’s. After the discovery of Tarinfell, some citizens decided to go off into the world, and relocated among the humans. Present day magical life does exist all over the world but the most dense population of magical life has always been Tarinfell.

  • The Weather in Tarinfell will be similar to that of Iceland, mild summers, and very cold winters. In the summer the temperature can be anywhere between 41 F (5 C) to 77 F (25 C) In the winter however the temperature can plummet between 0 °C (32 °F)  to −10 °C (14 °F)

  • The Country: The sim is based around the Capital City, Wakefield, the small town outside of the Capital called Ulfshvíld and the surrounding areas are called The Wilds, but there are many cities, towns, and villages in Tarinfell that would be ‘off screen’. These locations are all surrounded by ‘The Wilds’ which is considered to be a very dangerous area to travel through let alone live in as all sorts of magical creatures and unsavory characters lurk there.

  •  From Wakefield to Ulfshvild it takes an hour to get to by train and 20 minutes by car, making the town a good commuter area for those who work in the city and don’t mind the potential danger.

  • People can arrive in Tarinfell via Airplane in the neighboring city of Novgar, or by boat in the port of Ulfshvíld.

  • The land in Tarinfell is very fertile, and crops are easily grown there. Some will argue that ancient magic plays a hand in such things. As a result of these fertile lands with the added allure of tourism, Tarinfell is very wealthy as a country and a major exporter of various crops, timber, oil and metals.

  •  Many Languages are spoken in Tarinfell, common is the most spoken language (English) with Old Norse and Elvish being the second and third most spoken languages.

  • Tarinfell’s currency is based on the Tarinfell coin system or TKC (Tarinfell Kingdom Coin). 1 Copper = $1 USD, 1 Silver = $10 USD, 1 Gold = $100 USD 1 Platnium = $1000. Some places may accept Euros as well and most businesses in the cities will accept card payments.

  • Almost the entire city of Wakefield has 'electricity', though some people may be against making use of it. Some of the houses in Ulfshvild have electricity some homes do not. None of the shops in Ulfshvild or the Ulfshvild port have Electricity nor is there any electricity in The Wilds. There is still cellphone reception out there, however.

  • Electricity in Tarinfell doesn’t exactly work the same as it does in other places in the world. All Electricity, devices, appliances, electronics etc function on magic. The Wakefield Advancement Guild was never quite sure how modern things worked but they did their best. Everything will still function as per normal and devices will still be able to connect with the world, but any devices running on electricity that are brought in from elsewhere will not function in Tarinfell.

  • Since all businesses and households run on magic, it is possible for the magic to go haywire in your household, resulting in household malfunctions (i.e. Your washing machine will tye-dye all your clothes, the house will become haunted, all your planters will overgrow and you have a forest in your kitchen, etc) Fixing the magical mishaps will require the services of the Magic Guild or W.A.G.

  • The current Reigning Monarch in Tarinfell is King Yngvarr XVI, he is 18 years old and still very impressionable, meaning he can and will be controlled by others influencing him. The general impression of him by the citizens of Tarinfell is that he is ‘the party king’ and seems disinterested with current affairs of the country and more interested in ‘having fun’.

  • There are whispers around the city about different resistance movements around Tarinfell. Some of these groups may want to restore the old Kingdoms, some might want to plan a coup de grace and take the whole country for themselves. Both are quite dangerous to talk about as conspirators are treated quite harshly. Though rumors suggest these movements may be based either in The Wilds or in the depths of the Undercity.
